This is, of course, a year after Russia tried to interfere in the presidential election. This is also almost a year since President Trump claimed - without evidence - that millions of people voted illegally. NPR's Pam Fessler reports on what is being done to help protect U.S. elections. PAM FESSLER, BYLINE: When voters cast ballots in Virginia today, they'll do so on machines that have paper records. So if the results are questioned, there's some way to check the electronic count. It's a significant change from last year. Edgardo Cortes is the state's election commissioner. EDGARDO CORTES: The department recommended that action, based on our concerns over the security of the equipment, but more so kind of our ability to recover if something happened to the equipment.
